Unless I don't know what I'm doing (I have to admit this is a possibility), it seems like Gutenprint disables OS X's Printer Utility, which, among other things, allows you to monitor ink levels. Is there a workaround? I haven't really noticed a difference in print quality, and I'm not using an unsupported printer, so I'd like to have that and my Head Cleaning functions back; how do I revert to the built in OS X printer driver?
Apart from that, I haven't really noticed any bugs and do recommend this app if you can't get the built in drivers to work for you or have performance issues.

OS X Printer Utility Compatibility - ddg.alextek_dotmac
Yeah, Printer Setuo Utility. Excuse me. 'Utility' there (headcleaning etc) is greyed out since installing Gutenprint. I <b>do</b> have the Epson drivers installed.Wednesday, June 20 2007 @ 10:46 AM PDT
OS X Printer Utility Compatibility - William Robinson
There is no OSX Printer utility. If you are referring to the icon in the Printer Setup Utility, then you need to install the actual print driver for your brand of printer. Epson printers, for example, require you switch to their own driver before you can use the Epson Utility. If you have an Intel Mac you can find newer Intel versions of the drivers on their web site. Without an Intel print driver for your printer, you will not have access to the utility, since there is no Universal and the PPC version won't launch. I assume a similar situation for other brands of printers. This issue doesn't really have anything to do with Gutenprint.Reply to This
