Serial number policy totally wrong !

Used Product For: 6-12 months

I've bought the packaged product and I was never able to use the included printed serial number. Cust supp said it has something to do with the localized version "so you better use a trial number" they said to me !?
Now with version 3 I can nowhere find an upgrade on their site.
I will have to ask for a trial number again ???????
