Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

If you would like to simply disable the Caps Lock key, you don't need any extra software if you are running OS 10.4.x. Just do this:

1 Open System preferences.
2 Click on Keyboard and Mouse
3 Click the Keyboard tab
4 Click the Modifier Keys button (lower left)
5 Select No Action in the pull down menu adjacent to the Caps Lock label
6 Click OK

What if you don't want to disable it? I need capslock as much as anyone, just in a less accidently-triggerable way. I even tried to set a capslock function-key shortcut further away from the q/a/z keys, to keep me from hitting it by accident (one-handed typist). No luck. Failing to find a way to move the capslock, CAPS Warn gives me the next best thing, a warning. I had it 2 minutes before I decided it WAS a Godsend. ^^ Thank you, John!

If you want to toggle Caps Lock, then something like this app is OK. For myself, I never type more than a few characters in a row in caps-and do that rather seldom. (Text in all capitals is harder to read than standard case, because humans don't read letters, they read the shapes of words. Setting type in all caps is usually "wrong", except for "display" type such as headlines, and even there it isn't often a great solution.)

I never, ever used the Caps Lock key when it was enabled, and I never miss it now that it isn't. Frankly, its presence facilitates so many typographical crimes and horrors, I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't enabled on anyone else's keyboard either :-)

But really, if you like what this thing does, have at it...my post was just to make sure folks knew what the alternatives were, not to disparage this software.

Thanks for the tip on "no action" for caps lock. The only time I use caps lock is when I click it by accident.
