We finally took a leap of faith from Quicken 2000 to Quicken 2007 (R2). It would NOT open the Quicken 2000 file (which it converts automatically) without crashing! Terribly annoying. It could be because we have a whole mess of accounts going back to the 1990's (maybe it choked on it).
As I was about to request a refund and go with Moneydance (an alternative to Quicken), I decided to try exporting my Quicken 2000 file, create a brand new blank Quicken 2007 file and import the old into the new Quicken file. It worked. So far, so good. But I do not trust the program and urge users to be cautious--especially with the online banking feature. This feature can really complicate things and it seems Quicken for Mac doesn't handle complicated things. The online support seems weak. Forums were full of frustrated users.
I cannot recommend the product with confidence. I would recommend you take advantage of alternatives such as Moneydance. I would have gone with Moneydance if it didn't mishandle my IRA account data (I imported the Quicken file).
Like a victim of an abusive relationship, I'm feel that Quicken is a necessary "evil."
