Explaining it YET AGAIN...

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Two people have just written that their firmware wasn't upgraded to 1.4.2. I have written, and Mike @ lacie.com has written that:

a)  The version Nº of this Tool (1.4.2) has nothing to do with the version Nº of the firmware that any drive needs.

b)  The firmware version needed by drives differs one from another. If you use this Tool on 3 FW drives they might each report needing and being updated to different versions of firmware.

c)  What matters is running this Tool until it says "no update needed". If it says that the first time you run it then that's it! Don't waste space here to say that it said you don't need an upgrade - it's really not interesting.

Explaining it YET AGAIN... - theBlueLion

Explain the following then:

I use an iMac G5 (ppc) with OS 10.4.9. Updater 1.4.2. tells me I need no updating. My version of the drive is 1.0.2b. The inclosed readMe tells it should be v1.0.5.

It should be obvious - Andreas..

You are not thinking straight. A ReadMe file cannot possibly tell which of many possible firmware versions your drive is going to need. What you are seeing in the ReadMe is AN EXAMPLE of what the Updater Tool will show, AN EXAMPLE.
