Existing users, 
The corrected v1.4.2 of the LaCie Update Tool has now been posted. This corrects the mistake made with last week's posting. The application is labeled v1.4.2a internally.
Important: there are two separate updaters:
- LaCie DVD Update Tool v1.4.1 for LaCie DVD drives
- LaCie Update Tool v1.4.2 for LaCie USB and FireWire hard drives
As some of you have noted, VersionTracker had some interesting descriptions these past several days.
The LaCie website has the correct files and descriptions. I have also submitted changes to VersionTracker. Instead of deep linking as VersionTracker sometimes does, I suggest you use the links to go to the product webpages to make sure you get the up-to-date information we have posted.

LaCie has many different products, with different bridges.The v1.4.2 of the Update Tool is the latest.
This has no correlation to the firmware version in a specific drive.
As I noted, the Update Tool will:
- interrogate the drive
- determine if the drive is already up-to-date
- if an update is available, will offer user opportunity to update, or confirm what current version is.
You cannot make any conclusions regarding version numbers.
Inside the application is a lookup table for all different LaCie USB and FireWire bridges. Yes, there are many. Not all variations require an update. We did this so that one updater can take care of almost all product variations.
So...if Update Tool says no update is available for your drive, then no update is available. Not all drives require an update.

When I attempted to update my LaCie Firewire Drive to Firmware Version 1.4.2, I got a message that the update was unnecessary because firmware was already at 1.3.8 (!)That happened with the original updater that was withdrawn. This update is useless.
