I've used Scribus, both on Linux and Mac, and I think is a great app for DTP.
The only appoint is that not so many user will be pleased or have the will and skill to compile an application from source as it would need the download of the developers tool, which, for people not in the development area, are just waste of disk space (more than 1GB, last time I checked).
A precompiled version would be really greeted, as much as an Intel version, now that there won't be new PPC Macs

Scribus Mac Update - howard13
This is a general reply to all comments here about Scribus on Mac, from a long-time user who knows and has worked with key developers.1. It's not necessary to install developer tools or compile Scribus; easily-installed binary versions are available at the Scribus site. The current Mac/Aqua version (1.3.3.8) is indeed rather old, but look for a current one durng May 2007.
2. User-interface limitations in native Mac versions result mostly from limitations in the Mac version of the QT toolkit used in its construction. A version using the newest (QT4) version is in test now.
3. An Intel version of Scribus has recently been created and is in early testing. It is an important priority for developers. (The comments about current QT limitations apply here, too.)
4. Ghostscript is a valuable (though not essential) component of Scribus. The user must install it either from the available package on the Scribus site or from another source. Once it is installed, the user must go to Scribus>Preferences>External Tools to tell Scribus where to find it.
5. Answers to these and other questions about Scribus are available on its mailing list and on the very active #scribus IRC channel on freenode. You will often get a response in real time, and often from a developer.
6. The newest version, 1.3.4 -- not yet packaged for Mac -- includes important improvements in text handling, as well as features specifically for pre-press users (e.g. bleed, registration and crop marks).
