Using with Palm?

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

I like iData 3 (and liked v2) very much but I miss the Palm conduit that v1 had. Thankfully there is JFile Companion (JFC) for reading and writing Palm JFile databases. Export your iData files as tab-delimited files (sadly, you must do without freeform field data), choose the right JFC conversion template, convert, and install to your Palm. To go Palm to iData, backup your Palm; if you've already made JFC templates for your JFile databases, just double-click on the backed up pdb files in JFC and it will convert them to tab-delimited files you can import and merge into your iData files.

I keep lesson plans, software updates, and other things "synced" in both iData and JFile this way. A conduit would be better, but this will do just fine.

Using with Palm? - eric.ackerman

I was never able to get this to work very well and purchased MicroLog's InfoSelect for Palm (~$100) assuming you have the PC version. Transfer to Palm involved a cumbersome procedure to export the iData file, import into InfoSelect for PC, then create a Palm version of the data for their Palm product, and then HotSync.

The JFile companion is an all Mac method and should work well, but PalmAddicts recently mentioned that the developer of JFile companion has abandoned the platform.

No More JFile Companion Updates

One of my favorite Palm applications is JFile, a handy database that has always been the model of stability for me. While options exist for working with its files on a Windows machine, Mac users were limited to JFile Companion, which was a fine program; however, the developer has given up for a couple of reasons, including the fact that he no longer owns a Palm. http://www.mootjelitt.se/index.html
