Buggy!

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I've tried this program on watching DWG files for half and hour, and found it to be very buggy:
  • crashed twice
  • Zoom tools sometimes not working although you select them from the toolbar. Clicking some other tools in random order, before clicking the desired tool again, makes it suddenly work.
  • Print command doesn't print the document, but rather the zoomed area on the screen (at least when printing to PDF using "Save as PDF" from Print Dialog). Not Mac Standard!
  • Lacks proper usage of multi-button mice, one expects from a professional DWG viewer. E.g. left button = drag, scroll-wheel/middle button = Zoom In/Out, right button = fit to screen. Instead only the scroll-wheel works, but gives you silly results when zooming out and back in again (drawing doesn't stay centered!).
Note that everything on my Macbook is up-to-date (running 10.4.9).

Don't blame Solidworks, blame AutoDesk! - HerrFunken

The DWG/DXF format is renowned for its awkwardness. Don't blame Solidworks for this, blame Autodesk for continually changing the format. Now I would say Format Standard here, but I won't, because as far a Autodesk is concerned, there is no 'standard', which makes it very difficult for companies like Solidworks and Standards such as BIM and PLM to keep a grip on the DWG file system. If you don't like it, stop using industry standard software such as AutoCAD and switch to other CAD developers. As for displaying Solidworks own format, SLDPRT and assemblies, it does this of course with style, and so comes highly recommended. The fact that it also works on the Macintosh is even better.
