Shutdowns Without Warning

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

Since installing this update earlier today, my MacBook Pro will now lose power without warning when running off the battery. The battery was perfectly good (only 130 cycles) and could run for 2-3 hours before this update. Now it runs for 5-20 minutes and then my MacBook Pro dies completely.

Because I use FileVault and it is not a safe shutdown, I have lost data each time this has happened. I have tried completely discharging and recharging the battery as Apple suggests for recalibration, but it continues to happen.

Call Apple! You may have had a bad battery and this update just made it worse. My battery lasts for 3-4 hours. In the meantime, until you get your new battery- don't do important work without the power cord!

I had the same problem with machine shutting down randomly on batt power, turns out it was a faulty battery, a week or 2 after this started happening, my battery started overheating and eventually swelled up...
took it to apple, and they exchanged it for a new battery.
Could be a bad battery batch

What do you need to use File Vault for? Do you work for the CIA or are you just paranoid? It seems your problem was made a whole lot worse for it.

Surprising as it may seem to you, some people - even outside of the CIA - may have company confidential data on their laptop, or even confidential customer data on it.

Same here. Shuts down with about 30% battery remaining.
I also have done the battery recalibration, to no avail.
