Back in November I wrote that Nikon Scan 4.0.2 did not work with intel macs. A small correction there: it absolutely does not work (crashes immediately) when launched as a standalone app. However, if you launch it from Adobe Photoshop CS2 as a plug-in, it does run in an Intel mac.
Unfortunately I have now upgraded to Photoshop CS3 and it will not load Nikon Scan 4.0.2 as a plug-in. So now it just doesn't work, at all, period.

Problem is not only with Intel-based Macs. Yes, shame on Nikon. I've had the same problems installing Nikon Scan 4 software for my Supercoolscan 4000 on my G4 and iBook running OSX Panther and Tiger. Sometimes it works. Most of the time it doesn't. Really sucks!! Installation freezes with error message: 'a serious problem occurred initializing program.' Tells me it couldn't open preferences file since another Scan 4 program must be running. Pooh-Bah!! Anyone with any ideas??Monday, May 28 2007 @ 03:18 AM PDT

Still "works" as a standalone application on my 5000ED attached to my new intel Mac Mini running 10.4. Not tried it as a plug-in on CS2 - don't want to tempt fate! However, it is as buggy as ever. This is my third Nikon scanner going back to the first Coolscan and is by far the worst to operate thanks to the software. So bad, that I still sometimes use the LS-1000 that I still have attached to an old G3 running 8.6 - a dream to use by comparison.
Not only are Canon leaving Nikon behind on the digital camera front, it appears that others are now ahead of them with scanners. A case of resting on their laurels?

Further correction: Following suggestions from Nikon support I carefully trashed all Nikon-related preferences and application support files, and reinstalled Nikon Scan 4 and the 4.0.2 update, and now the program does run as a standalone application. It is still incompatible with Photoshop CS3.Reply to This
