I tried this on my mac mini with intel core duo and a DVI flatpanel monitor. The display goes black for a second and then comes right back on, even without moving the mouse or touching any keys. Any ideas? Is this meant for laptops only?

I have a new 20" Imac with intel. I too have the same problem that you describe here. I have been able to determine that my problem seems to be due usb devices that are polling, such as a Wacom tablet, Sandisk card reader and a scanner. All of these and I have checked each one causes the sleep feature to act the same as yours. To me it's a bug with OS X.This happens with my setup whenever I try to manually put it to Sleep. However it will go to Sleep automatically whenever it reaches the time that is setup in Energy in the System Preferences. I sent Apple a writeup today concerning this matter. I hope they will do something with this and get it resolved. I have talked to Apple Care 3 times and all I have is case numbers and I'm hoping one of the Techs will write it up also.
Sorry I don't have an answer for u.

This has been a longstanding bug in OS X. It still occurs in Leopard. Apple has no intention of fixing it. They may have tried, but if so, they've given up.Sunday, December 23 2007 @ 03:56 AM PST

Not really. I tried this on my Macbook Pro with Core 2 Duo and it does the same thing. It goes black for a second and returns. Is it an intel thing? Even though it does say universal...Reply to This
