It does the job when you have all the parts. But if any of the parts are missing and you don't have enough par2 files, it spins the wheels taking up 100% CPU trying to do nothing.
Quiting the app doesn't kill the par process it uses, still taking the 100% CPU unitl nobody knows when. Have to manually kill the process.
Not very well thought out.

100% CPU for nothing - MacGerard2
The effect of "endlessly doing nothing" usually occurs when the folder contains MANY other files. When a file set is not complete, the program first scans the remaining files in the folder to see if any of them match (part of) the missing files. When the folder contains many unrelated files, or when these files ar very big, the program will find nothing, but it will take a LONG time. Although this is obviously a waste of CPU time, there is no way for the program to know in advance which other files might be relevant. For that reason the program's Help explicitly recommends to make a separate folder with only the relevant files before running MacPAR deLuxe.Monday, April 23 2007 @ 09:52 AM PDT

That makes no sense. The Par2 set knows what files it's supposed to work on. That's why if you rename the RAR segments, Par recovery programs can't find them. There's no reason why MacRAR should have to do any searching whatsoever. UnRarX has no such problem. Neither does SmartPar on the Windows side.Sunday, October 14 2007 @ 07:25 PM PDT

Yes, the par file says what files should be worked on, but what about when files get named wrong. Sometimes the files have odd characters in the name, and when they get downloaded, the name gets mangled. This is especially true of European accented characters. So, MPD checkes the other files in the folder to see if they might be good files with bad names. This is actually a good thing, but as stated, you should put all the stuff in its own folder.Sunday, October 21 2007 @ 09:19 PM PDT

I've found that it isn't slow if it's working on a folder that doesn't have a lot of other files in it. IOW, I take all of the rar and par files for a particular par and put them into a new folder before running it. That way, it doesn't seem to waste any time looking at all the other downloads, trying to figure out if they're part of the RAR set.Reply to This
