Since I left windows, I missed only one tool: Total Commander. This is the closest thing to it. I paid for PathFinder reading here and there the promise that two-pane mode was "coming" but I stopped waiting. Tabs are cool though, I'll miss them if forklift doesn't implement them.
The good points:
- It launches very fast (a good advantage against PathFinder).
- You can press enter on an archive (zip) browse it and modify the file directly!
- Shortcuts are configurable with settings for TotalCommander fans and others
- Supports FTP and SFTP.
What I'd like to see:
- a good file renamer, or integration of the free Renamer4mac
- a search box on top that is NOT spotlight (to filter the content of the current view instantly, like TotalCommander and PathFinder do).
- folders for favorites (so all ftp sites for one project can be organized).
- Typing one letter should move the list selection to the first file whose name starts with it.
- The ability to drag programs to the toolbar. Pathfinder supports this. YOu can for example drag the "Bluetooth exchange" app from your utilities folder. This allows just a dragging a file over it to send it to a phone. This is not the same as connecting and browsing the bluetooth device. My SonyEricsson K700i for example allows file transfers but not file browsing.
I guess I should post that to the developer site though :_)
