This software is everything it's been complemented and well reviewed for. It's easy to use, with built in flexibility for advanced settings, and it's fast. For me, it's made the Apple TV a great product to own, whereas before I was sitting on the fence ready to buy a Mini for the same job (because iTunes can utilize almost any video codec and Apple TV cannot). That was the sole reason I was holding back on the Apple TV (well that and internet radio, but I think it's coming).
However, VisualHub makes converting all my "other" video formats to H.264 ATV-compliant a breeze (much quicker than QuickTime), and with the batch processing it's even better. This is a great, focused application and well worth the $23 (or whatver that weird price is). If you don't want to be strapped to the iTunes store, but want an Apple TV, this program will make it easy (but I am also pretty sure that either Apple or third parties will bring other codecs to ATV soon, given all the hacking success that is going on now...) But for me, at this point, this is a lot cleaner than the hacks available so far.
