This software is apparently like a virus -- I don't even know how it got on my system, I only found out when VersionTracker Pro (kudos!) told me there was a new version for the "Application Enhancer" plugin. Since I was sure I had never installed it, I did some research and found that not only Apple, but a lot of others strongly recommend against it (to put it mildly), so I was looking for a way to get rid of it. The only reliable way (since it sprinkles all kinds of system directories with its droppings) was to actually download the installer to run the uninstaller... Boy was I glad! The issues I've been having for weeks on my Intel 10.4.9 system are all GONE! (Extremely slow start up, permanently thrashing hard disk, crashing applications, hard hangups of the entire system so that not even ctrl-cmd-power works any more...)
So if your Mac hasn't been giving you much joy any more lately, download the installer and run UNinstall -- you'll be glad you did!!!
I would really like to know which other software put this cuckoo's egg on my system -- if I find out, they are going to hear from me!!

IF YOU HAVE IT, UNINSTALL IMMEDIATELY!!! - Steve Dillon
I have used Application Enhancers from Unsanity for more years than I care to remember. I have enjoyed the added "functionality" and GUI appearances that WindowShade, Shapeshifter, FruitMenu and Xounds have added to my user experience. I have NEVER experienced a problem on any of my seven various Macs or on any OS up to an including 10.4.10. I deduce that people who experience problems have an underlying issue in their set-up, which is unmasked when either and APE is installed or,often, an OS update applied. Thanks to Unsanity for their products and support

Wonder if you also tried to test the retired audio program "Detour "Version 1.5.5. This installer has been frozen on a time-line of "Application Enhancers 1.5.1" ... it is easy to overlook that particular flash screen ... pushing "OK" for = you will get the application enhancer in a second. So - thanks for your alert ... I actually got already funny feelings when I read, that the application enhancer screws around in the systems. So I felt it to be better to first scan those 182 comments on it --> BINGO
