Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I like Google products and was happy to try this one. However, it was a big mistake. I installed it on an Intel iMac running 10.4.9. After letting Google Desktop index my drive for a while, I tried to open Activity Monitor to see what resources it was consuming. Activity Monitor crashed repeatedly. I thought that was kind of strange. Then I tried to delete some files. A message appeared saying that the files were locked (they weren't). I tried secure delete and the process failed. So, I restarted. After the chime, I just got a blank screen. I tried another forced restart with the same result. Luckily I back up my entire drive every night, so I restarted on the backup by holding down the option key. Using version 4.0 of Disk Warrior I found that the disk had become quite corrupt. DW was able to fix the problems after two rebuilds. I then used SuperDuper to clone my copy onto the original hard drive. Now everything works again. Google Desktop can be easily deleted by using the Google Updater that is installed with Google Desktop. By the way, this whole adventure made me realize how important the Flashback feature is that Apple is promising with OS 10.5.

BAD SOFTWARE - DO NOT USE - scifiguy

I installed GD on an Intel MacBook and had the exact same problem, although without the severe disk corruption. Several times my Mac would suddenly start to exibit odd behavior, couldn't empty trash, certain apps (like Activity Monitor) would crash on launch, couldn't open System Preferences, etc. The only way to break out of it was to restart, but it was only a matter of time before the symptoms would return. Also, after 5 days, GD was STILL indexing my drive.

I can't recommend this software at all, even though it looked promising. It definitely needs to be tested more thoroughly before being released. Treat this as a 'beta' package!
