if i'm not mistaken (not at my mac now) activity monitor displays in the far right column whether a running app, process or daemon is intel or ppc. i think you can even sort by this column.

If you need the information only once, then this advice is correct. If you want to check more often, for whatever reason, you have to grab the window and look for the correct line in order to get the desired information.
