iSight DOES NOT Work in build 3186

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: johnnyangel Thursday, March 01 2007 @ 06:20 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 6-12 months

All my other USB devices (printer, scanner, USB headset) work fine. But when I check iSight in Parallels' USB/devices menu, it launches the Win XP Pro new hardware program. This leads to the normal error saying, in efffect, that the guest OS (Win XP Pro) cannot find the needed drivers. So, contrary to Parallels press release, iSight does not work on my intel iMac.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong, or need to patch my system somehow. Thanks.

iSight DOES NOT Work in build 3186 - Marc Girondot

It works but before you need to install the isight drivers from bootcamp. Parallels has not the right from apple to include the driver in their distribution.

How do I get the iSight drivers from bootcamp without installing bootcamp? can I extract the drivers from the archive?

I don't want bootcamp on my system since I will never use it.

The easiest way to get iSight drivers is:
1. Download and install latest Apple Boot Camp from http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
2. Browse to Macintosh HD->Applications->Utilities
3. Right-click the "Boot Camp Assistant" and select "Show Package Contents".
4. Go to Contents->Resources and click the DiskImage.dmg to mount it.
5. Find the "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" and copy inside your VM.
6. Run the file. In a short while, all necessary drivers will be installed. Reboot and enjoy iSight
