Great idea but too little flexibility

Feedback Type: Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

I've been a huge fan of using sound, NLP, and binaural beats to improve sleep and meditative states, so I was excited to see them being combined for the first time in Pzizz.

Unfortunately, the product allows for precious little flexibility and the developers seem intent on forcing you to use the product their way. The most egregious example of their inflexible approach is the horrifying buzzer that goes off at the end of the program. This cannot be turned off. When I asked why this is explicitly not possible, I was told by company executives that they fear they will be sued if people overstay their "naps."

I am not making this up.

The support staff then proceeded to hector me to use the product in exactly the way they specify, because it is the only right way to do so. They are very excited about the many other types of horrifying buzzers they are adding to the product in the near future.

But the ability to turn the end-buzzer off is out of the question.

Their best suggestion for someone like me -- and this is the part that really taxes the imagination -- is to snatch off my headset when the spoken voice says, "OK, it's time to wake up now." By ripping your headset off your head at this time, they advised, I can avoid the earsplitting end buzzer.

Wow.

Another suggestion made by the support staff was to hit "Stop" immediately after hearing the spoken voice saying, "Time to wake up now." Or to use command-Q to quit the app.

My experience with the product and the company have made me very sad that this product is not ready for prime time.

However, I am now hopeful that some enterprising competitor will see the opportunity for a more flexible product in this category.

Great idea but too little flexibility - jspectre

well. given that this is a mac product, it wouldn't take much creative hacking on your own to open up the bundle, find the offending audio files, and either remove them or replace them with something of your choosing (even a silent file). try right-clicking on the application and select "show contents" to get started.

it's a shame they won't let you disable it, but if you don't like their program you're free not to use it.

Great idea but too little flexibility - tripm

I agree that the developers could be a bit more flexible, but perhaps you should just use the sleep module instead of the nap module?

Great idea but too little flexibility - virtualshift

I was thinking the same thing, and one thing I found that works to use iTunes to set the stop time back by a few seconds. Basically just cutting the Alarm off your self.

Great idea but too little flexibility - mc_fonix

We Mac users love our flexibility, so I'm surprised that it hadn't occurred to you to make your own flexibility by doing what other users suggested. Specifically, if you use the Sleep module, there is no "wake-up" sound at the end. Problem solved. Otherwise, you can use iTunes or Quicktime Pro or Fission or Amadeus Pro or Audacity to chop off the ending very easily.

Life is good, and Pzizz is a sweet product.
