I found that in 1.x, once you opened smcFanControl, you could close the app and your settings would be retained. That being said, I prefer to have access to that information in my menubar because I have a widescreen monitor and am also a menubar icon nut. However, I agree with others who have stated it would be nice to have the option to disable the menubar icon. A preference pane would be ideal in my opinion. Then again, free is free, and this is a great free app and I would use it no matter what it looked like. Thanks for making this fantastic tool.
