so as i am an avid movie fan who happens to have not only an 8 moth old son, but also a golden retriever puppy, i ensure the safety of my dvds. i had been backing up my dvds without a problem for over a year now. recently, on all of my recent movies (the past 20 or so attempts on over 10 movies), mtr is going unusually slowly.
furthermore, i am getting a "there was an error recompressing the video" message in toast. i went out and bought popcorn hoping that i had a bug or something in toast (we all know how bad roxio's support is). in popcorn, the same error ocurred!!
i have plenty of disc space on my hdd, the discs are in pristine condition, my copmuter is in perfect working order, and i dont know what to do... normally i would try to fix this on my own, but have not succeeded.
im on an 800 mhz imac g4 512 mb ram, running 10.3.9, using mtr version 2.6.6, on toast 7 titanium/popcorn (the original)

I have the exact iMac setup as you except my OS is at 10.4.9. I used to get MTR to work great everytime but there is some sort of confilct now that will not let me ever get a working rip. I've also tried the new uni (universal) version with no luck. However if I put my MTR application on another Mac, it rips fine. I cannot even use my popcorn since MTR is conflicting with something. Sorry I can only complain with you, but maybe someone wise has answers for us.ps

After continued use MTR goes funny for me too. I did a little research and found out MTR logs all the films you've copied in a little secret file, nobody knows why it has this feature. What is known is that it works better when this file is erased (as if has just been downloaded). To do this in a safe way (because you don't want to tinker with the system files) download 'Kill The Ripper' from version tracker and it should work better with popcorn etc. It works for me on my upgraded AGP G4 with 10.3.9. Failing that, Handbrake is also a very good no nonsense ripper.Saturday, March 03 2007 @ 12:05 PM PST
