Hello all? When I extract DVDs into my iMAC and then burn them with iDVD, the picture quality is lousy when I view them on a tv. Should I be using Xvid, 2 pass encoding, what bps settings, etc. will allow me to make good copies? Also, is there a way to transfer movies to iMOVIE &/or iDVD without the size being too large to put on a 4.2 Gig DVD? Thank you!
System Info:I use an iMAC.

Because Handbrake is not very good. You can take a lot of guesses at settings, but there is no support or directions. I wasted about 20 DVDS beofre I realized it was time to give up. It sounds like it works for some people, but for me it is definitely a case of I got what I paid for.Thursday, February 15 2007 @ 08:58 PM PST

I have not figured out how to ensure a QT or mpeg Video will end up "fitting" on a DVD. But as far as getting good quality - I use Cinematize Pro and DVDxDV Pro to extract DVD to mpeg and I use Episode Pro for conversions. Yes these are pricy apps - but they work really well. I wish I knew of a DV edit application where you could set in set out and save, next in-out save , next .... Nothing I know of does this simply - save edited clips in their own library??Saturday, February 17 2007 @ 07:24 PM PST

Handbrake is good! at making .mp4 files!if you are re-burning to dvd, you are re-compressing twice. quality loss each time.
if you want to back up your dvds, you should use Mac the Ripper (and Toast)
--sdm.
