Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

The main feature that drew me to Mellel was that it supported OpenType unicode right-to-left scripting fonts. Because of that fact, I could use my Mac to type in Uyghur, a Turkik language that uses a modified Arabic script. Aside from another application/suite that costs hundreds to over $1000, Mellel is the only application for the Mac that can handle OpenType right-to-left fonts that I have found, and I've researched just about everything. Furthermore, it makes typing English and "Arabic" style languages a snap!

After I started using Mellel, it quickly became my favorite word processor, especially with the way it handles columns and style sets. The styles are so easy to create, edit and use, very intuitive.

The outlining feature is great because it doesn't automatically take over your document. You control each line of the outline quickly and easily. There are many more positive features to mention, and I'm constantly discovering new ones as the need for them comes up.

One feature that I wish it had "more" of is shortcuts for more of the features. I have to go to the Palletes and menus more than I would like. But this is a inconvenience that is far outweighed by is great features.

The main thing that people need to keep in mind when evaluating Mellel is why Mellel was developed in the first place. It's not a catch all for every type of word processing need, like the other most commonly used word processor. Mellel serves a focus purpose and it does it extremely well.

Enabled me to use my Mac! - humhum

For keyboard shortcuts, why not use the built-in OSX Preferences? You can assign whatever you want to specific Mellel menu items.
It is not entirely true that Mellel is the only app for Unicode, and 1000$ is an exaggeration. But if I need a wp, I use Mellel as well. (After exporting from Ulysses).
