Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

I thought that version 3.13 of this application was the worst piece of software ever written for the Mac. I was wrong. Version 4.0 of PocketMac for BlackBerry is the most abysmal software I've ever used. And at over three months of age, this version is unimproved.

Be prepared for a great deal of:

 • rebooting;
 • application crashes;
 • inexplicable dialog in windows;
 • uninstalling the application;
 • deleting all SyncMaster and PocketMac files;
 • reinstalling the application;
 • and, my personal favorite: reformatting your Blackberry (which can only be done using Windows).

Be prepared to perform all these tasks regularly.

Tech Support is very understanding, but there is no there there. RIM should hang its collective head in shame.

These symptoms are very rare. I encourage you to work with PocketMac support directly to see if you can get these problems resolved once and for all. That's at http://www.pocketmac.net/support.htm

Look for things like Missing Sync and Palm Desktop software clogging up the USB drivers, and make sure your hard drive permissions are in good shape. There is nothing that can cause your BlackBerry to need reformatting. An older BlackBerry may need an operating system upgrade, and that is the only thing that requires a PC. But that's not due to a PocketMac bug: that's due to the lack of database features in the older BlackBerry versions.

I appreciate your suggestions and have done each. Unfortunately, nothing has helped, including reinstalling a fresh OS 10.4x. And it was their Tech Support who suggested reformatting my Blackberry 7290.
