While the debate continues to wage as to whether such a piece of software is necessary for OS X it still never hurts to be somewhat cautious. The install went smoothly and the user interface is clean and easy to understand. While a scan of my system yielded no spyware or adware (and this is the first time I've run such a scan since I purchased the computer back in 2003) it did find 61 tracking cookies which it immediately removed. I could have just as easily deleted my cookies folder to take care of this problem but using MacScan I saved the legitimate cookies from the malicious ones.
Is a piece of software like MacScan necessary? I suppose that's up to the user. But rating a piece of software poor because people think it's unnecessary is foolish.
MacScan does what it claims and, from what I can tell, does it well. Is it worth the cost? For me probably not because I haven't had a problem as of yet. But that doesn't mean future problems won't occur. For those that have had problems with spyware and adware this software may be a good investment. For everyone else it's a choice between being proactive or reactive.

Is it worth it? - Mr Reynolds--2008
Think what great freeware this would be! And if anyone thought it was worth anything, they could donate whatever they thought appropriate to the cause--especially in two or three more years, if anyone has bothered to attack the Mac by then.Reply to This
