Bootable?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

One use I have for disk image files is backing up bootable CD/DVDs that I purchase. For the obvious reason of being able to create a bootable disc should something bad happening to the original (most of these are of the disk utility kind and thus absolutely critical in that there's no time to try and figure out if or how to replace the disc, a process that can take days).

Will this utility create a dmg of a bootable disc that when burned to a recordable will still be bootable?

Actually, I don't know the answer to your question, but honestly: I doubt it. Of course, it might also depend on the specific disc you're trying to back-up.

I'd recommend to use Apple's Disk Utility to create a disk image of your purchased disk ("File->New->Disk Image from diskxx"), using the "CD/DVD master" type instead of the "compressed" type which is used by the CreateDiskImage tool.

After all, you will have to try and find out on your own; please do not hesitate to post your findings to this site as well, though.
