I can't believe Apple haven't come up with this. I find widgets useless for the most part - nothing but eye candy. However this app puts some function back into the design in a way that makes it more valuable. Only question I have is if the screensaver is static, won't this create burn-in on the computer monitor? I mean, the whole idea of a screen saver is to, well, save the screen. Not sure how this program does that if the widgets are stationary.

I agree. This is more like a screen burner than screen saver because the widgets are not animated. Another program Amnesty animates, but it only displays one widget, which doesn't fullfil the multiple widget at a glance purpose.

Great idea, but what about burn-in? - ajturner

Good points - however, Screen savers originally were meant to prevent burn-in on CRT monitors. Burn-in isn't as much of an issue on LCD's.

Screensavers now are more just "ambient enjoyment/information".

Anyways, if you are still concerned about burn in, or energy usage, what I would suggest is to have Dashsaver come on after 5 mins, and then the display turn off after 30 mins.

Great idea, but what about burn-in? - Jay Levitt

Actually, burn-in IS an issue; it's just got a different name ("image persistence"). I've seen plenty of LCD monitors with burned-in screens. Wikipedia has an example on a TFT screen:

I too wish DashSaver could automate the widgets somehow, the way Apple does with the clock option on its own screensaver.
