Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I purchased a copy of MacGPS Pro to use with my Garmin eTrex Legend Cx, mainly because it seems to be the only Mac product that can connect to USB-based Garmin GPS receivers. The purchase, download and install went well, and it can indeed talk to my eTrex. However, I've now returned it after a day.

The product has been around since before OS X, and it shows. Confusing arrays of options, long overly-technical popup menus, different fonts in different places (including some very ugly ones), eccentric work flow. It's possible that an expert in GIS and GPS technology would find it wonderfully flexible and powerful, but I for one found it painful and confusing.

MacGPS Pro looks like it has lots of features, and I don't doubt that the customer support is great (although all of the website's links to the company's return policy were broken). However, the product's user interface needs an extreme make-over. For now, I'm going to look into using Boot Camp to run a Windows-based application (which is saying a lot for a Mac-a-holic such as myself).

A very fragmented user interface - Daniel Griscom

I just got a reply to my request for a refund: it's been issued. Six hour response on New Year's Day. I certainly can't fault their customer support.

A very fragmented user interface - Fartleberry

Yes, looking at screenshots there is poor grapics and text handling. Almost looks Wintel in places. The Website is also clunky.

Since I cannot buy the cables as well in Canada I'll have to pass on this one. And I really need GPS this year.

A very fragmented user interface - mcclaren1

I have had nothing but success with MacGPS Pro. With the software's support for some Garmin and Magellan USB, it does not take a extra cable for connecting.

I don't understand this post at all. I have never experienced a pop-up window in the program. It has an excellent help menu. It has the typical OS X fonts, and I am glad that it gives me many features.

Your post is very confusing to me. You admit that you tried it for a day, and then got your full money back. What more can you ask from a software company? Geesh...
