Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

I work in a large studio, with about 400 Macs and 3000 PCs. The Macs get along just aceptably well in a large corp environment. I maintain all the Macs. What we need, just to shut up the PC admin is 3 Major things: Internet Explorer 6 & 7, REAL Outlook 2003 (Entourage 11.3.2 is pretty good though), and the latest version of Windows Media Player for DRM purposes (better than Flip4Mac). These 3 lines of products all need Gold status at Crossover/WINE
(ADmitMac gives good Active Directory functionality.)

That's it, then the Macs would have practical parity in the PC corp world that normally doesnt give 2 shiznits about Macs. This would achieve real world large corporate parity, because for everything else in the corp enviornment, there is a Mac version or alternative that is as nearly as good or better. And in the creative environment, the Macs just kick major butt. And Office 2004 Mac is just fine....

If we dual boot Win on Mac, or BootCamp Win, then we have effectively doubled the support costs of Mac... Crossover has the greatest potential, because the idea of critical Win Apps, WITHOUT Windows is nirvana.

I am definitely rooting for CrossOver !

Please (and believe me: I'm sincere!) can you explain me why somebody should still use internet explorer? Even directly, if you want, to GianMarco.Tavazzani@mac.com

Active X content enabled sites that dont perform correctly in Safari, nor Firefox (its AJAX almost works). Its proietary, its enabled in tons of pages and old sites, and it NEEDS IE for Windows to Work. And you CANNOT fool/spoof it by using developer tools or Debug menu enabled to respond back as IE6 Windows in Safari, though it sometimes works on a limited basis... I see this all the time, and we write to the webmasters, buyt they are too windows centric to care

Quite honestly there is one other "requirement" for platform parity, it's called VBS (visual basic scripting). No matter what the marketing spin is this is simply NOT the same on the Mac. When you deal with a lot of Excel spreadsheets that utilize this you quickly realize this is a huge shortcoming-and it is not going to get any better with the next version of Office which reportedly will be dropping VBS entirely. My view is this will deal a crippling blow to Macs in the office (in mixed environments).
