The fact that they finally cobbled this together is but a piece of a larger issue. There seem to be increasing numbers of folks who do these updates only to find their Pods trashed or suffering from far worse woes than with the previous release. I had a bug in the new Pod I just got (they replaced the hardware and it was still there, indicating it was in the software not the hardware), so I jumped too quickly on the 1.2.1 release. Did NOT fix the original bug AND added a deal-breaking new one. Situations like tat are NOT uncommon.

So the issue is the ability to revert back to previous generation releases. Wish were somewhat easy IF you downloaded all the stand alone updaters AND archived them. Now the system is different AND they provide NO access to previous update files.

So how long did they know they had to allow reverting to previous software before they cobbled together this utility?

Um, version "1.2.1"? "Reverting"? Huh? - ClassicUser

paulc: It seems you might be confusing a few issues...

The current version of the iPod shuffle software is 1.1.5 - which was just released this past week. Prior to that, it was version 1.1.4. There is no "1.2.1" to speak of for this model iPod, it doesn't seem...

Note that this Reset Utility is intended to restore the iPod back to factory conditions - wiping all content, and loading the latest version of the firmware. The 1.0 version of the utility released in late Oct included that 1.1.4 software; this 1.0.1 release includes the new 1.1.5 software.

You appear to be very angry that the utility didn't resolve the problem you had - but keep in mind that if your unit doesn't exhibit the specific problems indicated in the ReadMe, then the utility will probably not benefit you. Several in this discussion area have had great luck bringing their shuffles back from the dead using this application - and we can only hope you are able to encounter the same.
