I used an early incarnation of Newfire a couple of years ago. Yes, it's beautiful, but yes, functionality is limited. Naturally, it does not export your feeds to opml because it wants to trap you. Then, I discovered RSSOwl (www.rssowl.org) and vienna (http://www.opencommunity.co.uk/vienna2.php) Both are superb. RSSOwl probably offers the most features, but it has a cumbersome java interface. Vienna is pure bliss. Both import/export opml. Both are user friendly, and neither attempts to trap the user.
So, bottom line is that if you have a few feeds to manage, then Safari 2.0 is the way to go. It presents feeds beautifully. But, if you have lots of feeds to manage, rssowl and vienna are the top choices. It would be foolish to pay for newsfire.
