I have a new MacBook Pro with a Core 2 Duo and the LG optical drive that shipped with the machine (HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA). Retrospect doesn't recognize this drive. The current driver update (6.1.9.102) was released *after* I purchased this machine. I have used Retrospect for many years and find it to be, historically, a terrific product, however their commitment to Mac support since being acquired by EMC appears to be pretty shaky. As it stands today, if you own a recent Mac, particularly an Intel-based Mac, you will almost certainly need an older external drive in order to use Retrospect.

Dear EMC, I don't think we should see each other anymore - graphex
I think it is time for EMC to either stop supporting MacOS altogether or make a real darn version update. I'm thinking they'll do the former, and I sure wouldn't pay for the latter at this point. It isn't them, it is me. I want a backup solution that can work with multiple platforms, and they're happy with one, and it isn't made by Apple.I've been happy in my relationship with Retrospect since the 1900's, way back in the System 7 days, but having been stuck with version 6.x since January 2004, I just feel like my system has progressed, and retrospect hasn't. The past 3 years have been some of the most backed-up years of my systems implementation, but I think that now the time has come for my system to start working with other backup programs. Retrospect has Windows, and they really seem nice together. I'm glad to see that. I just think that right now, it would be better if my system weren't backed up at all than having it think it was backed up but not really be able to restore.
It has been nice, and I wish Retrospect the best with its new owner, but I just don't think we're compatible anymore.
