I downloaded the SCOM 5.3 DISTRIBUTION disk image and moved the Symbolic Composer 5.3 folder into the Applications folder, and inside that, I double-clicked on the SCOM 5.3 application and...nothing happens. I get a sense that there's some setup involved and this thing works in conjunction with other applications, but the only thing resembling a read-me file is tucked away in the Environment folder - and it doesn't give you any kind of overview. How silly to spend however many man-months writing an application, but not give any clue as how to use it. ????? Oh wait a minute, inside Environment is a Reference folder. I believe we have a manual! If I can figure it out, I try using it and get back to this page with more in-depth comments. BOTTOM: not providing a read-me file or an alias to the manual text is anti-social, anti-Mac, and self defeating.

Yes, it launches on PPC and looks to have an upfront help system. I guess the Rosetta box, mentioned in the previous comment only appears on Intel-built apps, not PPC-built apps. I still think a read-me file in the root level folder of this app folder, entitled "Attenion Intel Mac Owners" that explains if and when an Intel version will be available is the cost of doing business on the Mac platform.Wednesday, December 13 2006 @ 04:43 PM PST
Double-clicking on the App doesn't launch anything - symbolic composer
Hi, sorry about that. Your comments are well-adjustified. However, due to the nature of SCOM, which is a language for music composition, many things are left for the composer him/herself to discover. But we congratulate you that you get past on this first test, since it means you are qualified to enter into SCOM!The program supplies free description of any composition parameteres in any levels you can imagine, and is targeted for high-level and experimental composers, and hence we don't want to build up any impressions of push-button solutions to creativity, since as you know, push-button creativity makes all others push the button, too ... Music composition is your path of development, and we are giving you only the tools to realize your vision.

UPDATE: I see, its PPC only for 10.4 and I have an Intel Mac. Shouldn't there be a way to run under Rosetta (or at least, if you can't run under Rosetta, a graceful way to announce that - even at l least in a read me?) The Get Info window does not an "Open using Rosetta" checkbox - I guess that's way this developer chooses to inform. I'll try it on my PPC PowerBook.Reply to This
