New potential problems for Fairmount and DVDRemaster ??

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

The new version works extremely good. I had some problems with the sync of the subtitles, but it was solved within a few days. Thanks again Etienne !!
But...now I found another problem when I tried to remaster/copy the DaVinciCode DVD. Fairmount detected some DELIBERATE made faults in the movie-file. Very clever done by the Columbia Pictures, because DVDRemaster stopped after a few seconds and left me with a 265Kb file. That was all!! Does any of you, smart guys, already dealed with this problem. Or maybe even better, already found a solution???

New potential problems for Fairmount and DVDRemaster ?? - jreffner

These problems you mention are very common these days with companies such as Sony, LionsGate, Disney, etc. You can almost always find your answer about the latest DVD from the kind folks at the RipDifferent forums.

Generally though, the latest version of MacTheRipper 3.0rx (required donation) is a better option than FairMount. If you're copying the entire DVD, then DVDRemaster should then be fine, but if you're copying the "movie only", then you'll probably need to remove the "zero cells". In that case, DVD2One is the only option. I hope this helps.

MacTheRipper is a useful program, but to get it you HAVE to make a "donation". There is no way to download it from the author's site without paying. Therefore it is not free.

If You Think Windows is So Easy and Macs Are Not - You Should Go Back To Windows. Many Are Called - Few Are Chosen.

Mac The Ripper v14 has a work around for this type of DVD deliberate error approach some companies are using. What they are doing (not an expert) is duplicating more than one VTS file and thus only one works the others are "Decoys" in a sense. MTRv14 allows you to visually see all VOB files and select the correct one (usually the first good one.). The other "Rippers" need to figure this out.

Once MTR has ripped the DVD - you can use MTR to compress it.
