Crashes upon opening ANY kind of movie file

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: freelancelot1 Monday, December 11 2006 @ 11:35 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

0.8.6 crashes upon opening ANY kind of file that I tried (DIVX, WMV, MOV, MPG, AVI, etc). Despite this current issue, these developers have done a great job with all previous versions:) Hope to see a fix for this soon!

Crashes upon opening ANY kind of movie file - natenate

You're using the Intel build, right? It was missing a library when first posted to VideoLAN's mirrors. The package has been fixed, re-download it. Don't forget to trash your Preferences. Always post to VT in triplicate...

Crashes upon opening ANY kind of movie file - Oodles

I have had no trouble with this update. I did use the script to delete old preferences.

Crashes upon opening ANY kind of movie file - jedik

I was having problems with vlc also, it would quit if I tried to play videos. I found the solution in their forum (http://forum.videolan.org/):

Delete the folder ~/Library/Prefences/VLC

I hope this can help someone else. =)

Oooops, sorry for my typo. Obviously, the correct path of the folder that should be deleted is:

~/Library/Preferences/VLC

Ok, trashing the entire folder "~Library/Preferences/VLC" seems to have worked. It opens movies ok now. Thanks for the tip! :)
