CPU usage way up!

Feedback Type:  Review

Contributed by: ElectronMan Monday, December 04 2006 @ 05:54 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

Since installing this security update, my CPU usage is always at 100%. Activity Monitor identifies a kernel_task with process ID 0, with 41 threads, using about 75 Meg of real memory, almost 1 Gig of virtual memory, constantly running, using between 45% and 95% CPU power. I tried fixing permissions, restarting, and running DiskWarrior--all to no avail. I need to remove this 2006-007 Security Update and get my computer back. Something is rotten with this update!

No problem on my Intel iMac... Maybe the problem is not intrinsic to the update, or maybe it is, but not widespread. What is your hardware?

kernel_task is meant to run all the time, because it's… The Kernel! Who'da thunk it?

You do not help a person by insulting him or her. I have a similar problem and in my case this is the second Apple update that makes my SystemUIServer go berserk (100% CPU use, all other apps are unresponsive, I cannot use the computer). I have not found any HELPFUL hint on what to do about it and I will now need to reinstall the OS, again. And, yes, I am VERY knowledgeable with computers.
