I've tried each release of this product, and as much as they've improved it, and as much as I need a tool like this, I haven't warmed up to it.
The flat folder hierarchy is a problem for me. Just because it can find anything, doesn't mean I want to throw it all into a big pile. Organization is more than just a powerful search function. The author's claim that I can "organize to the extreme", but a single column holding every folder does not actually allow that.
Things like passwords, and bookmarks have nifty "form style" entry controls... but they don't let you add anything to them which the author's did not consider... why doesn't it have (add) a great big scrolling note field for each of these items that would allow the user to insert some additional information related to the item? For instance, when keeping track of software serial numbers, I rarely just keep the name of the software and the serial number, I also keep user ID's, contact information, previous serial numbers, links to tech support, etc. The current info could be kept in the fields, and other information kept in a free-form field... I don't want to have to spread this across a whole bunch of separate records.
Some of the fields throughout this software are locked to a specific height... as though the program window is only supposed to be used at the size window the author's work on. Software like this should conform itself when its window is resized.
All in all, it is a nice piece of software, but it has all these weird interface issues, and is too restrictive in behavior. Still waiting for 2.0

DEVONthink has its own batch of deficiencies. For instance, the poorly designed UI, and the complete lack of connection to OSX services... like spotlight, iCal, Addressbook and more. Yes, DT has more features than Yojimbo, but it feels like a great big Windows application running on your Mac. Yojimbo has the right direction going, but it feels somehow incomplete, and it certainly needs more work in general functionality.Wednesday, January 10 2007 @ 07:38 AM PST

blizzaster, Nifty Box <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30484> has nested folders. Have you tried it? Seems to be in the same league as Yojimbo, but has no user reviews, yet. It's a newer app, though, with perhaps a smaller marketing budget.Thursday, March 15 2007 @ 12:13 AM PDT

Have you tried DEVONthink? It's relatively similar and allows you much more flexibility with the folders and how the information is organized.Reply to This
