This beta version, the so called OFFICE version, adds the ability to manage MAIL messages, something very important. Unfortunately, to do so, it alters someway the mail keychain, and even worse the log-in keychain. There is no way to repair the keychain through the S.O.S. function to repair it included by Apple in its core services. So, the only way to work again with your MAC is to reinstall the whole MAC OS X. STAY AWAY FROM THE SO CALLED OFFICE VERSION OF DEVONTHINK, stay with the PRO version, or at least wait for the definitive one. Do not use this BETA.

BETA VERSION, AND YOU SEE IT. - shopping
I didn't experience such problem at all. It imported over 2000 messages without tampering with Mail app or the keychain.Wednesday, November 29 2006 @ 11:29 AM PST

Slow but Ultimately sure !In fairness to the original post, the import of emails IS somewhat slow and gives the impression of a hung application (accessing 1500 emails in Apple mail took a looooong time on a PB 17 in 1.67 10.3.9). This delay does not appear to occur in, for example CRM4MAC -which seems to have a more efficient 'import' engine.
I force quit the application twice to be sure that it had not crashed. There is no interface indication of how long to wait.
I can see/imagine that another user may well have interrupted the computer in a way that damaged some start-up file -- just speculating!
Version Tracker is a great democratic place for people to freely express their individual experience for others to consider on face value.
DevonThink has numerous fans, myself included, so much that I have already purchased the upgrade to the Beta version to support further development.
In my opinion nothing is gained by happy users of DevonPro asking unhappy users to 'calm down' and stop rating the product. Such opinion and rating 'management' will only give the product a bad reputation.
It is a unique product that stands on it strengths and merit. Those that disagree should also be welcome to the house of Devon.
No doubt these are interface issues and the development team will iron these out. I sure hope so, because I have already paid for the upgrade, but would continue to use the product despite its imperfections.

Are you objecting to my suggestion (made with positive, unconfrontational intentions) that fioretralefoglie calm down, yet ending your comments with "Peace and Patience People !!!"? :)I'd consciously ignored the first negative review, then felt the second one deserved intervention. To me the FUD-like yelling "STAY AWAY FROM THE SO CALLED OFFICE VERSION", claiming an apparent Mail/Keychain-related problem that necessitated reinstalling the OS(!), and posting multiple one-star ratings wasn't making a valuable contribution here or to the product's reputation.
I have no idea what kind of feedback fioretralefoglie was expecting (if any) but didn't think my comment was inappropriate or disrespectful to continuing a more thoughtful, civil discourse. Heck, I'd have even been encouraged to help resolve any problems (if interested) had they been expressed with less emotional outburst.
If, as you say, VT is a "great democratic place for people to freely express their individual experience" there will always be agreeing and disagreeing opinions.
And anyone who thinks I'm uncritical of DEVONthink hasn't seen some of my posts on the DEVONtechnologies forum. :)

you did not have that issue, i DID have it. i am free to post my experience, a very negative one, since i had to reinstall my OS.oh, and, by the way, there is NO "two posts with one star", since only my latest one was with stars.
i think devonthink pro is a good product. devonthink pro OFFICE, insteed, IS NOT A GOOD PRODUCT.
i consider my duty a warning about the havy problems you might meet using the OFFICE version.

Your writing style made it sound like everyone who installed DTPO would suffer the same problems you did. Instead of clearly describing your negative experience, with possible warnings, you attacked the product and generalized issues with statements like:"So, the only way to work again with your MAC is to reinstall the whole MAC OS X."
Your Mac is not my Mac, and reinstalling the OS was probably not the only solution for your problem.
I never denied you didn't have any of the problems you claim, but felt your "bull in a china shop" (or, "the sky is falling", if you prefer) reporting of them here was unnecessarily strong and inaccurately generalized. Maybe English isn't your primary language.
Yes, I was wrong about you posting multiple one-star reviews; your first "STAY AWAY FROM THIS" post wasn't a review.

You seriously need to run Disk Utility. I had a friend who was having mysterious Keychain problems (among other odd stuff) and Disk Utility found an unfixable (to it) disk problem. Disk Warrior did, however, fix it.Wednesday, November 29 2006 @ 08:51 PM PST

Other people (myself included) aren't having your problems with this product. Please stop YELLING and posting duplicate one-star ratings that aren't of any value here.Reply to This
