I have been using MYOB for 12 years and I upgraded up to 2002 and I am now stuck with that version first OSX of Account Edge because I tried a more recent version and was disgusted at the copy protection system that MYOB imposes on its customers. I see that nothing has improved. Does anyone know of a similar application to record company accounts which has been customised for use in Australia?

I'm not crazy about having to activate software but that's how it is these days. But I'm not sure I get how nothing has changed since your 2002 version. THere's been tons of new features added in the last 5 years. Compared to the other Americanised accounting software for the Mac, MYOB is probably the best out there ... BUT, when compared to the alternatives from outside America it's unnecessarily over-complicated and over-expensive. They need to update the product AND make the cheaper / smaller versions available on the Mac.I'd stick with MoneyWorks.

re: disgusted at the copy protection systemLet me guess. You rated MYOB 1 out of 5 stars because you purchased it once but pirated it 5 times? In America we call that theft. You get no sympathy from me. The cost would probably be lower if people such as yourself paid your fair share.
I've been using MYOB since 1990 (legally!) and it's been a solid 4 star program for years.

Try MoneyWorks by Cognito Software.It's accounting software that comes in a few different sized bundles to fit your needs and there's a demo you can download to try-before-you-buy. It's written in New Zealand, so is not highly Americanised and handles things like GST and comes in versions for New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada. Originally created for the Mac, it is now available for Windows as well and it's been around for many years now. Best of all, if you buy a copy then you can get a fee copy sent to your accountant too.
