I'm not here to put the developer down. Maybe this would help the developer to improve his product.

It's a free world and the choices are yours. We only believe what we believe.

I've done some tests here and check it out:

Talking about "SPEED" only - Strider72

What computer are you using?

Also, did you notice that in your test scans Vuescan has significantly different color quality? Maybe not as obvious when the image is mostly gray anyway, but the blue in the Vuescan scan is much grayer in the Epson scan. Color makes a big difference. Speed is not everything.

Beyond that, I question the times you give until you tell us what computer you use, how fast it is, etc. Does the Epson scanner require you to use Photoshop Elements or somesuch?

I run on a G4, and Vuescan can take a long time if I'm doing a 1200dpi scan or something like that, but a 150 dpi scan? Nowhere close to 4 minutes, and that's on a 6 year-old computer with a distinctly consumer-grade $70 Canon scanner.

Send a Problem Report - edhamrick

If you were interested in solving the problem, you'd send a full problem report, as described on:

http://www.hamrick.com/sup.html

You haven't even mentioned a single VueScan option setting, and the option settings affect the scan speed.

For instance, what are the setting for "Input|Media" and "Input|Scan speed"?

This is a terrible forum for diagnosing simple problems like this.
