I agree with other reviewers, this is a tremendous boon to Mac people who want to view Flash movies via QuickTime. Though not listed as a supported format, I was able to load some .swf files. In some cases, animated text effects did not display, in others, QuickTime simply said the .swf file I was opening had "invalid media data". Oddly, I could view the latter files using the Amazing Media Browser add-on in FireFox (I thought AMB used QuickTime, if it does, must somehow get around the invalid media data faux issue as happens when opening such files directly in QT). So, between the two, I can now open all Flash movies, at least all I've tried. Lovely and long overdue functionality. BTW, some reviewers refer to this as an "app" -- it is not, it is a "component" for QuickTime.

FLV - dreamcore

FLV playback is what Perian is adding. And that's plenty cool, as there were no other good options for playback outside of a browser embed.

QuickTime has played .swf for several years. If you didn't have the Flash plugin, the QT plugin could cover you for somewhat out-of-date Flash support.
