This is the correction on my previous comment with error on my typing.
It should be read as: 1 minute & 30 secs. instead of 1 minute & 301 secs.
Seems like lots of you think that I have something to against this software. I actually time it with the stop watch today.
Scanner: Epson 4180 Photo. Item to be scanned: 4x6 photo
Resolutions: 200 dpi
Output actual size: 200% of original.
VueScan: Took 4 minutes and 45 secs. from I hit the button "Preview" till it is done (Preview, scan & save).
Epson Scan 2.77A: Took 1 minute & 30 secs. from I hit the button "Preview" till it is done (Preview, scan & save).
Both resolutions are the same. Quality are the same. Speed? How obvious. Where's the speed on VueScan?
VueScan
Scanner software for most scanner brands.

Try reducing "Input|Preview resolution".Try setting "Input|Scan from preview" and setting "Input|Preview resolution" to "200 dpi".
Try setting "Input|Media size" to a smaller area.

Speed shmeed. The epson driver for my scanner offers only 8 bit /channel scans but 2400 dpi. The scanner is a 16 bit/channel scanner with a max of 1200dpi.
Throw in multi sampling etc.- vuescan allows the scanner to function up to its specs, a feature the manufacturer fails to offer..
regarding silverfast: it is my understanding that you have to buy it for each scanner you use. in my brief trials it seems overly complex and expensive. If you calibrate it seems mostly unnecessary.
