Seems like lots of you think that I have something to against this software. I actually time it with the stop watch today.
Scanner: Epson 4180 Photo. Item to be scanned: 4x6 photo
Resolutions: 200 dpi
Output actual size: 200% of original.

VueScan: Took 4 minutes and 45 secs. from I hit the button "Preview" till it is done (Preview, scan & save).

Epson Scan 2.77A: Took 1 minute & 301 secs. from I hit the button "Preview" till it is done (Preview, scan & save).

Both resolutions are the same. Quality are the same. Speed? How obvious. Where's the speed on VueScan?

My experience is the opposite with my Epson Perfection 2580

I haven't timed it like you have but Vuescan is fast and stable - 100% reliable.

The bundled Epson software, in contrast, is slow and crash-prone.

I called Epson tech support about their supposedly mac-compatible software and they said quite directly they didn't guarantee anything regarding their programs' compatibility with Macs. They actually encouraged me to stick with Vuescan!
