Buyer beware: According to the Silverfast web site (http://www.silverfast.com/product/Canon/384/en.html), this product does NOT support FARE (the hardware based dust removal built into the FS4000US).

Anyone who has used FARE (or VueScan) or any other hardware based dust removal (based on scanning infrared) will agree that no software can replace it.

VueScan works fine with this scanner and DOES support dust removal using an infrared scan pass.

Note that Silverfast reportedly works great for other scanners (where it also supports the full feature set).
