Sound like your preference file is corrupted. Delete the following file and reconfigure your preferences. You should be okay. You can find the file in the following folder.~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
~ is the root of your user folder.

It's either the previous file or hidden .DS_Store files aren't being created.Tuesday, April 17 2007 @ 08:24 PM PDT

I agree with you-I also would like all windows to open in list view.On every Mac I've had including 2 w/Tiger- it simply cannot be done.
You can change window after window to list, then when you come back, or shut down and re-open, they revert back to Icon view.
And this also bugs me that in prefs, there is a checkbox that notes: use relative dates.
You can uncheck it, but after you close out that pane, it reverts back to RD.
Oh-And another thing-while were at it-when you install OS X you are given the option install Asian Language support.
But it does'nt matter-all the Asian fonts and files get installed anyway.
Luckily, there Monolingual-and manual deletion from font folders.
Like wise, when you install iTunes there are 2 checkboxes for iPod and phone support-they are both checked and greyed out-so you have no choice in the matter. They are installed whether you like it or not.
There- my gripes.

language support - dreamcore
You aren't given the option to install Asian language support. OS X is delivered as an inherently international OS. The option you are given at install time is whether to install additional Asian fonts.
What you are removing with Monolingual is something else altogether: the translations of menus, etc, which exist within the OS software and in your applications to various extents.

In order to change the default finder window you open one up, change it to how you want it, then close it (without clicking on any folders or what not). From then on when you open a new one it will be the same.Reply to This
