Just like James Collymore I had exactly the same scenerio, and efforts to fix...nothing worked. I had and returned to an earlier version.

Me too! This Flash Player DOES NOT WORK! - tonisue

I have never been able to get Flash to work for me on my iMac G5 PPC 10.4.8. So I uninstalled flash and downloaded the latest Flip4Mac free WMV player and everything workds. (Note: an older version of Flip4Mac didn't work for me either.)
