I must (partly) revise my previous comment: the actual dmg.zip file (21.1 Mb) is a zip file containing a compressed dmg image (21.2 Mb) ... why compress a compresed file?

That way you avoid problems with web servers (and some browsers) doing the wrong thing with Apple file types, such as spewing them to you as pages of text.

Exactly!

And also to avoid Safari ("smelling" a compressed dmg) of adding an extra bz2 extension. Happened with 1.3.1.
