David Watanabe writes excellent software that is stable, intuitive, and a joy to use. Acquisition quickly became the definitive p2p file sharing client for OS X, and inspired Acqlite, which is nearly as good and free. There is little doubt that Xtorrent will soon be the definitive Bittorrent client for OS X.

The problem is the developer. He specializes in software explicitly designed to facilitate software and music piracy, and charges exorbitant shareware fees. Not only does he charge for his pirate-ware, he also uses some of the most ironclad anti-piracy schemes in existence to protect it. There is something singularly hypocritical about Watanabe's entire endeavor.

Worse yet, Watanabe offers what is easily the most rude, arrogant, and conceited software support I have ever experienced in my life. I have had the misfortune of dealing with his odious personality with time and again, in relation to his software and other matters.

Are these justifiable reasons to avoid a developer's products? I don't know. There are many satisfied users of Acquisition who don't seem to mind paying through the nose for an app that's superb where its competitors are only good. I will never purchase another Watanabe product as long as I live. It's your call - you get brilliant software, but at the cost of feeding a contemptible personality.

Beware of this developer - mtjmac

When I hear of stories like yours,
I wonder to myself:
"Why did the person spend so much energy ranting on
how bad the app was, instead of going and getting a better
and ease to use app?"

There are TONS of software developers who make really
good products, and have excellent Customer Service.
Try spending more useful energy getting a better app that suits your needs, instead of wasting time extolling
the bad about this devloper/app.

for the record I use Azureus, and customer service has been
good for the few Questions I have, most which wwere answered
by the devloper wiki.

Beware of this developer - sundoggy

He didn't rant about the developer's applications at all. In fact, he basically had nothing but good things to say about the quality of the applications.

It was the developer himself that he was ranting about (and by implication, the developer's support or attitude, not quite clear there).

He basically said he'd rather deal with second rate software than have better software with an unethical jerk of a developer to support his (expensive) purchase.

I don't agree with him (I actually wouldn't know, I am just about to demo a couple of his aps), I just don't think you really read his rant, before you ranted yourself.
