Beta expiration was an accident

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: Ken Gruberman Sunday, October 22 2006 @ 10:25 AM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

As usual, a few whiners here at VersionTracker are giving everyone else a bad impression of a great product. I have used and depended on FB for YEARS and give it 5 stars. Yes, Beta 13 is giving an "expired" message -- but as soon as I saw it I went to the developer's web page, clicked on the CONTACT US button, and actually called Laurence Harris on the phone ... and he answered! (Gee, what a concept; his number is right there on the page.)

He called me back within 5 minutes to profusely apologize over the mixup. Someone else at his company handles web uploads, and they somehow got a hold of a much-older version. Of course it's Sunday and the guy isn't around, but Laurence is working on fixing it himself in just a few minutes. And that should say something right there about the kind of service you get with this product, and the kind of person who created it.

Well... you weren't "using and depending" on version 9 for the past 3 weeks.
Because neither you nor anyone else could launch it! Beta 12 croaked on (or
before) 30 Sept... and beta 13 was only available to the public today.

What if Photoshop, or QuickBooks, or iTunes stopped working for 3 weeks?
What if everyone who paid for version "9" had to revert back to version "8" ?

Should folks not protest... or at least question the developer's policy? I'm sorry but...
your one-sided comments about legitimate complaints are what I'd consider "whiney".

Well... when I called 2 weeks ago I got a recording. So I left a polite message
about beta 12's expiration, and nothing was done... until today.

There seems to be a time-lapse in your account of things.

That's some accident - brian163

Yeah, this comment is a serious heap of crap. I wrote the author weeks ago when b12 died and no one has responded to date. Maybe he was in a coma. Maybe he's Rip Van Winkle. See? Anyone can make up excuses as dumb as this explanation. Why even try to cover the mistake? He screwed with a bunch of paying customers that expected better. Leave it at that, apologize, and start working on beta 14-29 so this doesn't happen again. Or, try releasing a non-expiring beta for a change.
